The Role

Working together with your partner, and living together onsite, you will co-manage your assigned independent retirement community. You will report to and partner with a Lead Community Manager team, as well as with the Regional Director, and provide leadership to the community's staff that ensures our resident seniors enjoy the life they've earned. You'll oversee between 25 and 30 employees, including housekeepers, servers, an executive chef, enrichment coordinator, bus driver, and maintenance personnel.

While you won't be the lead team onsite, your roles in the community are critical and most closely align with the title “Assistant Manager.” You are the team in charge when the Lead Community Managers are enjoying their days off, and they'll cover for you when you are off. You will also share on-call responsibilities at night, as well as taking responsibility for multiple tasks daily in the core areas of employee management, business operations and sales. If you’ve owned, run or co-run a business, you know much of what the positions entail. Some specific duties will include:

  • Giving tours and selling to potential residents
  • Marketing to prospective residents, including cold calling
  • Scheduling employee shifts
  • Managing accounting, administrative and other paperwork
  • Running and analyzing critical reports, including Profit & Loss
  • Database management
  • Responding to care issues and late night emergencies
  • Interacting with residents
  • Helping to serve meals
  • Coordinating events
  • And more…
You and your partner will manage your workload and divide the labor dependent upon your individual experience and competencies. You must be able to effectively divide and balance the workload. It’s too much for one person and you will burn out if one carries the majority of the weight. Again, we are looking for a combination of skills and experience that make up a total package of the skills necessary for success in this combined role.

Note: this description is intended to give you a general overview of the position and is not an exhaustive listing of duties and responsibilities.

Why Holiday

Critical role in an aging society: There are more than 75 million Baby Boomers in the U.S. Baby Boomers continue to be a ground-breaking force as the 65 and older population sours. Consider, in 2000 the Census Bureau reported 35 million Americans age 65 and older, increasing to 40.3 million in 2010...and the senior population continues to grow. With an aging population, the need for quality senior living resources is not only essential for the quality of life of individuals, it's essential to wider society. By leveraging the business, service and other skills your team brings to the table, you will play a critical role in creating a safe, friendly and welcoming environment where seniors can enjoy their lives and thrive.

The Holiday Touch: There’s something very special about life at Holiday that makes it unlike any other place on earth. It’s the warm, accepting community of neighbors who feel more like family. It’s the devoted staff who see this as more of a calling than a job, providing unrivaled service, compassion and care. And it’s the unique feeling of being right where you belong -- a feeling of being at home. We call it The Holiday Touch, and it’s what makes life at Holiday Retirement so special.

Impact and a sense of pride: As you take ownership of your duties and interact with the community you serve, you will make a positive impact and can feel good knowing that your efforts are making a difference in many lives.

Outstanding training: Naturally, as a team you'll come in with the skill and talent needed to perform your roles, then we'll add to your skill-set. You dedicate yourself to knowledge gain and we'll ensure you receive the training and support you need to succeed. We have an outstanding three week training program that will provide the accounting, business, sales, management and senior living competencies that you will use daily.

Career growth: Prove yourself in this role and you and your partner could step up to become Lead Community Managers. We have ample opportunities available, especially if you're willing to relocate.

Warm environment / great people: The people who are attracted to the senior living industry tend to be kind, helpful and caring. In tandem with the residents they serve they create a warm and welcoming environment. We think you'll like it here!

Charitable giving: Holiday is dedicated to contributing positively to our local communities through a variety of industry related charities like Outward Bound, ALS, and executive board memberships. Our partnerships have built strong relationships and bonds that tie us to the causes we are most passionate about.

Competitive compensation: At Holiday Retirement, we offer a comprehensive benefits package with all you’d expect and a few surprises. In addition to a competitive wage and bonus opportunity, as Community Co-Managers you will have the use of a one-bedroom apartment onsite, enjoy three chef-created and prepared meals each day, have access to a full slate of benefits including health, dental, vision and other insurances, a 401(k) plan with company match, paid-time-off (vacation, holidays and sick time) and more. We even have a unique travel program that allows you to stay at one of our nationwide properties when enjoying your vacation!

Keys to Success

We run our Communities as small businesses.  If you have run a business you know it takes a strong work ethic, drive, the ability to wear many hats and the understanding that if you don’t treat people well, then your business won’t do well.

This is a role where you must be able to juggle a lot of responsibilities while maintaining a calm and upbeat attitude -- it takes both physical and emotional stamina. Resident emergencies can pop up at any time, from a simple situation such as "I locked my keys in my apartment" to more challenging ones. It may happen that a resident passes away and you'll spend a couple of hours comforting the family and taking care of logistics, and then have to put on a smile and help serve dinner. Compassion, humility, management skills, business acumen, sales ability and a commitment to serving others are absolute requirements.

In addition you'll need to truly enjoy working alongside your partner or spouse. After all, you will be together a lot!

About Holiday & Maplewood Estates

Holiday Retirement was founded by William E. Colson, often recognized as the father of Independent Retirement Living, with his father Hugh Colson in 1971. At the time, William was operating Colson & Colson construction, specializing in building high-level care facilities for seniors – referred to as “nursing homes”. William and his father realized that while seniors were benefiting from the quality care they received in these facilities, they could be benefiting even more from a nurturing, community environment that met seniors’ other needs: social, physical, educational and spiritual, at an affordable, all-inclusive monthly rate.

They opened their first independent retirement community in Vancouver, Washington in 1971. Today there are more than 300 Holiday Retirement senior living communities across the United States, and tens of thousands of seniors are enjoying the one-of-a-kind lifestyle only Holiday can provide. Although we have grown in size, we remain true to the core values instilled by William E. Colson, and are as committed now as he was then to improving the lives of seniors.
